Our Favourite Neutral Paint Colours

As is tradition on the TLD journal, we're updating our favourite neutral paint colours for 2024.

One of the key unsung heroes of a space, a neutral paint colour becomes the canvas for your space.

For 2024, I am leaning into one thing - warmth.

Neutral Layered Living Room by Tiffany Leigh Design

'String' by Farrow & Ball

"An earthy yellow based neutral. This Yellow Based Neutral is reminiscent of the untreated twine used by gardeners and parcel senders worldwide." - Farrow & Ball

String is one of those tones that can be intimidating but really pays off when used. We are in the process of painting our entire studio space this colour to bring the warmth our current stark white walls so desperately crave.

'Natural Cream' by Benjamin Moore

"A light greige that flatters both warm and cool colour schemes." - Benjamin Moore

For the white wall lover who isn't quite ready to let go of those brighter walls, Natural Cream is one we have used time and time again and it never disappoints. From walls to millwork, this neutral is as diverse as it is contemporary.

'Drop Cloth' by Farrow & Ball

"Neither too yellow nor too grey, Drop Cloth is the traditional name for the indispensable painter's dust sheet which the colour embodies." - Farrow & Ball

For a touch of moodiness without the commitment, Drop Cloth is a staple in our favourite neutral paint palette.

'Cord' by Farrow & Ball

"The warmly aged hue has a surprising strength of colour in underlit rooms, so is often used in studies and libraries." - Farrow & Ball

By its name and tone, this colour is the bolder counterpart to String. This neutral evokes the timeless elegance of a traditional hue found in the kitchen cabinetry of a historic home or in the tongue-and-groove panelling of an understairs nook.
